Are you having a rough day? Does it feel like NOTHING is going right? Do you have three minutes? Did you know you can reset your entire day in just three minutes? I love taking the time for mini meditation – it’s the perfect way to refocus and calm your mind. You can do it anywhere – there’s no preparation involved.
If you aren’t sure if meditation is right for you consider these points.
Meditation reduces stress. Meditation allows us to control our emotions and put things into perspective. When you feel agitated and full of unrest due to outside pressures, meditation has been shown to permanently improve the ability to regulate emotions in the brain.
Meditation improves your health. Would you like to lower your blood pressure, slow the aging process, and strengthen your immune system? Meditation can do all three. A study published in 2008 in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine showed that two-thirds of high blood pressure patients could stop taking their blood pressure medication after starting meditation. Meditation brings on relaxation which in turn increases nitric oxide causing blood vessels to open up and blood pressure to drop. The immune system is strengthened due to a boost in antibodies and a reduction in inflammatory cells. Finally, meditation changes brain physiology to slow the aging process.
Meditation improves concentration and increases happiness. Meditation has been linked to an increased ability to focus, better cognitive skills, an increased ability to focus and improved memory. Meditation also leads to increased energy and greater concentration. That energy also contributes to increased happiness. While meditating, brain activity increases on the left side of the prefrontal cortex which is responsible for positive emotions, while at the same time, the right side of the prefrontal cortex sees decreased activity. The right side controls negative emotions. You’re actually reprogramming your brain while meditating to bring about positivity.
